A health care agency is any agency or provider that your trust, and pay, to take care of your health care needs. Such an agency is pretty important when you’re 30 or 40, but it’s extremely important when you’re 65 or over. Seniors face more challenges and health risks than other age groups, so it’s important that seniors trust their health care agencies. It’s also important that seniors know what to expect from their health care agencies. Here are five things that you might not have known health care agencies can do for you.
1 – They work for you
OK, yes, of course you know that any health care agency you hire to look after your wellbeing works for you. But it’s remarkable how often we forget this fact when dealing with health care agencies. We always go where they tell us to go, we wait for as long as they tell us to wait. After all, they’re in charge, right? Wrong. You’re in charge. It’s your health and it’s your money. Don’t make unreasonable demands, of course, but always remember that a health care agency is there to serve you.
2 – You don’t always have to go to them
If you have an important procedure such as an MRI Scan or colonoscopy that is required, of course you will have to go to a hospital or clinic. But much of your care can be done where you would like it to be done. Say, for example, in your own home. With the exception of any procedure that requires major equipment, you can get a vast array of services and care provided to you by a health care agency in your own home.
3 – It’s not always just about your physical health
When we think of our health, we often think of it in physical terms. Why is my back stiff? Is there something wrong with my gallbladder? But our mental and emotional wellbeing is just as important as our physical wellbeing, so when we hire a health care agency, we must make sure they can take care of our minds as well. This is especially true of seniors who are at greater risk for both mental conditions and loneliness and isolation.
4 – They can make your lives better
Health care agencies shouldn’t only be focussed on making your life better by curing or treating your ailments but in every way that they can. One big problem for seniors is not so much that they can’t take care of themselves so much as they struggle to take care of their homes. Taking care of a home can be a lot of work and these errands and chores can be exhausting, painful, and even dangerous for some seniors. A health care agency that offers homemaking services is definitely one you should seek out.
5 – They can live with you
For seniors who require around the clock care but don’t want to move into an assisted living facility, some health care agencies offer live-in care. This type of care sees a care worker move into the client’s home with them. In this way, the client can receive the care they need without having to leave their home.
