Finding a Hobby as an Older Adult

As we age and have more free time, sometimes it is difficult to figure out what to do with all that free time. Sometimes, the best thing to do is to find a new hobby.

There are so many options that picking a hobby can actually be a daunting task. Here are some tips for finding a new hobby:

First, ask yourself these questions:

  1. What do you enjoy doing?
  2. What have you always wanted to do?
  3. What would you enjoy sharing with others?

Not sure what you’d enjoy? Why not take some classes? Local community and senior centers often have many classes ranging from dancing to cooking to exercise.

Are you creative? If so, there are many activities, like painting, pottery, woodworking, scrapbooking, quilting and photography.

Do you like the outdoors? Why not go on nature walks, or start bird watching? Gardening, golf and fishing are also great options.

All in all, when looking for a hobby you are looking for something that you’ll enjoy doing. If you meet that requirement, you’re on the right track to finding the right hobbies for you!
